To some extent, I am desensitized to nightmares. Due to my dark viewing & listening habits, it's really no surprise that negativity encapsulates my dreams on a regular basis. From time to time, though, I find myself feeling unnerved or crestfallen by nightmares. In recent memory, I remember seeing in my sleep a small child -- my daughter, it would seem -- who'd been bullied severely by her classmates. Mind you, I don't have any children. Oddly enough, her features were Indian (I'm Native American, & not from India as she seemed to be). It was during a field trip to a museum where she decided -- in her grief -- to throw herself over the railing of an interior balcony. She died from the fall. The first thing was to see her up close. I can clearly recall feeling despondent when I saw her crushed, misshapen little face half-sunken in a sanguineous puddle.

Having shared that, I encourage others to describe any recent dreams that involve unsettling imagery.

A recent unsettling nightmare I experienced was about me and my father having dinner. The table was large and well-dressed, many knives and forks and plates and glasses and they were very refined. There were even some palm trees around, so this house was rich.

Anyway, we were eating our cat. The cat was on the table, and my dad was cutting large slices of the cat, just like slices of ham, and between two cuts, the cat was still walking on the table, almost like he was calm. We were at half of the cat and he only had three legs left, and I didn't really see the discomfort, until I suddenly got shocked and told my father: "but, stop… look! he's suffering! we're actually killing him!"

I woke up at 4:30 am and was unable to get to sleep again. And I had to wake up seventy minutes later so I decided to stay awake and to see if the cat was okay – he was, thankfully!

I guess I felt what some vegans feel?
